GSA hosts clothing drive for the community

The Gender and Sexuality Alliance, or GSA, is a support and activity group that works to help create an inclusive and safe environment for the LGBTQ+ community here at IVCC  and the surrounding area.  The GSA is open for all students that support the LGBTQ+ community and wish to create a safe place for these people to express themselves.

“We discuss any upcoming events that the GSA may be hosting or projects we’re working on. We also take time to discuss the environment on campus and discuss whether it’s a safe one for LGBTQ+ members at IVCC,” said Jentsie Petersen, president of the GSA, when asked what GSA meetings consist of.

One of the projects the GSA will be starting soon is a clothing drive for those in need.

“We’re collecting clothes so that we can start an IVCC closet program that offers free clothing to those that need it,” said Petersen.

The clothing drive is running from now until Feb. 6. Those who wish to donate clothes can do so at the donation bins in the student life center or the cafeteria.

For any student that wishes to participate in the GSA, they can contact Jentsie Petersen at [email protected], or contact the club’s faculty advisor, Amanda Cook-Fesperman, at [email protected].

Anyone is also free to partake in their meetings, which take place every other Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in room C-326. Their next meeting will be held Feb. 1.
