Lance Yednock: The Function of IVCC in the IV

Brittany Marx, IV Leader Reporter

Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives Lance Yednock visited Illinois Valley Community College to meet with President Jerry Corcoran and college administrators on Feb. 12, to learn more about IVCC’s opportunities and challenges.

Yednock, an Ottawa native, who was elected to his seat in November and took office in January visited the campus as a means to “hear the voices of students.”

A graduate of Northern Illinois University, Yednock says, “IVCC is a gem in our community… It is where rubber meets the roads in industries. If you’re not ready, community college is key.”

Yednock admitted regretting not going to community college first, and by meeting with both college administrators and students, Yednock wants to continue the dialogue in reference to community college always being an option for incoming students from any background.

His engagement with both the students and faculty provided him with information on the programs at IVCC.

Yednock intends on expressing the importance of community college when he visits the State Capital and wants to make efforts to improve these programs that create the building blocks that lead to success in students’ future careers.
