The women’s tennis team has heard coach Julie Militia’s encouragement to get ready for regionals and aim for the national tournament.
Now, the team is preparing to put Militia’s coaching to the test with the upcoming Oct. 13-14 Region IV tournament at Moraine Valley.
The team has to finish in the top three at regionals to get a bid for the national tourney. IVCC competes in Division I at the national level.
“We’re close enough that it could happen,” Milota said during the teams recent 5-4 victory of College of Lake County. “A lot will come down to seeding and us playing a good game when we need to.”
Milota said her team “has a lot of heart,” so she’s hoping they can break through to the national stage.
One of the team’s strengths has been it’s consistency, Milota said. “Many coaches have said we are like little walls out there.”
No. 1 Emma Walker and No. 5 Marissa Vickers laughed at that description.
“It’s because at every practice we hit the ball back and forth,” Walker said.
Captain Alex Stremlau said the team is good at keeping each other accountable.
