A heads up on men’s golf

Aaron Pellican, Assistant Sports Editor/Personality

As the IVCC men’s Golf team enters the brand new 2017 season, they look to blend some new faces into the formula and expand off of what was a successful 2016 season.

Coming off an impressive season, which culminated with a third-place finish in the Arrowhead conference, Coach Jim Lukosos still hopes to take steps forward with a newer group.

The team will miss the presence of departing athletes Joey Dudek, Marv Pflibsen, and Bobby Morse but are also eager to welcome a few new faces to the program.

Nick Guisti of La Salle-Peru, Jake Nurnberg of Mendota, and Matt Hoscheid of Hall will all look to make an impact as freshmen.

All three players are coming off impressive high school careers and are bringing a lot to the table.

Along with the incoming freshmen, Coach Lukosos is excited to be bringing back returning sophomores Carter Piercy and Connor Soenksen.

Piercy played No. 1 for the Eagles last year, and after individually placing ninth through the five conference tournaments last year, with a combined score of 323, Piercy earned All-Conference honors.

Soenksen is also coming off an impressive season in which he was the team’s No. 2 golfer and was close to All-Conference honors himself when he turned in a 334 overall score through the five conference tournaments.

The team started their season Aug. 25 at Highland, and play their home tourney Sept. 22-23 at Deer Park and Oak Ridge.
