IVCC’s golf team hosted its only home tournament of the season Sept. 17 and 18, finishing 14th with a score of 331.

Coach Jim Lukosus said his freshman-dominated team has been struggling a bit this year, but the golfers have gained valuable experience.

The IVCC Invitational was shortened to an 18-hole event after Friday’s round at Deer Park Country Club was postponed because of weather. Sophomore Dane Lehr led Eagles golfers during Saturday’s round at Seneca’s Oak Ridge with a 79, while fellow sophomore Austin Craft carded an 80.

On Sept. 11, the golf team participated in the Duane Chanay Classic at Byron Hills Golf Course. IVCC had a score of 345 which placed them ninth in the 10-team field. Black Hawk College won the tournament with a score of 288.

Craft carded an 84 for the Eagles, followed by Lehr at 85 and Joe Dudek at 87. Marvin Pflibsen scored 89 and Brandon Godfrey 92.

On Sept. 10 the team had its highest finish of the fall season taking second place in the five teams at the Carl Sandburg College Classic in Galesburg at Lake Bracken Country Club. Black Hawk College won the tournament with a score of 318. IVCC finished in the runner-up spot with 332.

Craft and Dudek each scored with a low of 82 for the Eagles, closely followed by Pflibsen with an 83.

On Sept. 4, the Eagles golfers took part in the Timber Creek Classic Golf Tournament in Dixon. IVCC finished with a team score of 338, placing eighth in the 10-team field. Sauk Valley College won the tournament with a score of 308. Craft once again led IVCC’s golfers with a 78. At the Highland “36” in Freeport on Aug. 28, IVCC finished 10 in the 13-team field. Black Hawk College won the event.
