The IVCC’s women’s tennis team has gotten off to a red hot 4-0 start. The team is a NJCAA Division III squad this year, but has been playing the same schedule they did last year, which is against DI teams. Division III teams cannot give tuition waivers or housing expenses like Division I community colleges can. Division II community colleges provide waivers, but no housing.

The IVCC board decided to eliminate waivers for the IVCC tennis program, but still maintain them for some other sports, like basketball, softball and volleyball. The big changes for the tennis team this season is the time and location of the National Tournament, and another huge change to their season is they will not be having a Regional tournament. As a Division III school, there are only two DIII teams in the conference, so they will play a head-to -head game instead of the regional tournament.

However, no matter how that goes they will qualify for Nationals due to only having two teams in the conference at their level. Head coach Julie Milota said the IVCC Eagles will compete against other Division III teams at the national tournament. She has great confidence in her squad saying that “we look forward to bringing home a trophy.”

The team is still raising funds to compete at nationals, which will be held in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. There they will not only be competing for a trophy, but will also have the honor to play on the U.S. Open courts where the professionals play.
