SHRM lowers student membership cost

Illinois Valley SHRM, the local affiliate chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, recently announced a special membership rate for students interested in joining the group.

Annual student dues are just $10 per calendar year, and discounted to $5 for those students who are members of the national SHRM organization.

Illinois Valley SHRM is a local professional organization that serves as a starting point for networking, information, professional development and continued support of excellence in the human resources profession.

The group, which is comprised of local business and human resources professionals, typically meets on the third Wednesday of each month at Illinois Valley Community College at 11:30 a.m. for a networking lunch followed by a speaker who addresses current employment topics and trends.

There is a $10 meal charge for lunch events.

“We are thrilled to offer this unique opportunity to IVCC students,” remarked Illinois Valley SHRM Chapter President, Heather M. Hammitt. “Whether you are planning to pursue a career in business or human resources, or simply have an interest in finding out more about employment-related issues, we welcome you. This is a great way to build your resume and network with dozens of local hiring managers.”

She called the exposure to local business leaders “invaluable to students, particularly those wanting to have careers in the community.”

She also noted that many universities have dedicated SHRM student chapters for those students planning to transfer to another school.

Students can join the group online at https://ivshrm.shrm.org/join-now or contact Heather Hammitt, Chapter President, at (815) 228-4294.
