IVCC students are encouraged to sign up for summer classes on Thursday, April 4 at 9 a.m. online on Web advisor or at 10 a.m. in person. Fall registration opens up on Wednesday, April 10.

“Regardless of your situation, summer classes are beneficial,” said Quintin Overocker, who is the Director of Admissions, Records and Transfer Services.

He continued, “If you intend to transfer to a university, summer is a time to get one or two more classes out of the way and to save a significant amount of money in the process. If you’re pursuing an [Associate of Applied Science] degree or a Certificate, a summer class can speed along your completion.”

Students should keep in mind that the last day to register for summer and fall classes is the first day of the semester. Overrocker warns students, “Be careful, though—as some classes fill up quickly.

“The most important thing a student can do before registering is to see a counselor to make sure the courses they intend to take will satisfy their degree and/or transfer requirements,” he said.

According to Missy Killian, IVCC counselor, there are many benefits to seeing a counselor before registering for classes.

“We like to help students create schedules that are going to get them to their goal in an efficient manner,” she said.

Seeking guidance from a counselor will help students make sure the classes they are registering for will transfer and count if they plan on transferring to a four-year university.

Students can register for fall and summer classes up until the day the class starts, but Killian strongly encourages students to see a counselor at their earliest convenience.

Seeing a counselor earlier than later ensures you get all the classes you want and can take a weight off of your shoulders.

Killian suggests taking summer classes to lighten your fall semester load.

“To get a transferable associate’s degree in two years, that’s 16 credit hours a semester. That can be a lot for a student,” Killian said.

Not only are summer classes offered to IVCC students, but students attending a larger university can also take classes at IVCC’s tuition rate.

There are summer A and summer B courses available. Summer A classes are three-week sessions and fast-paced. The class meets every day starting May 28 – June 11. Summer B classes are eight-week sessions, and more classes are offered. Classes may meet two or three times a week and start on June 12 and end on Aug. 7.

You can meet with a counselor to schedule your summer and fall classes. Walk-ins are typically available Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.
