Illinois Valley Community College participates in the River Project in which stu- dents and faculty volunteer their time to ensure the safety of the water and wildlife in the area. Saturday, Sept. 15 was the first date to colunteer, but 8:30 on Saturday, Oct. 13 will be the next available time to go. Students meet in the IVCC parking lot and depart to the Vermillion River, where they perform qualitative and quantitative research to test the health of the river. Biology, chemistry, geology, geography and sociology are all used during this testing, according to IVCC’s River Project website.
