Get the most out of your drone: Class offered Oct. 28

Illinois Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Office offers Beginning and Advanced Drone classes Saturday, Oct. 28 in CTC-125.

The 9 a.m. to noon beginning class is for individuals thinking about getting a drone or who aren’t sure what to do with their new drone. It covers basic drone flying techniques and safety tips, the difference between a toy and a professional drone, and whether a drone needs to be registered with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The 1-4 p.m. advanced class is for individuals with some experience flying drones and is a more in-depth version of the beginning class. It will cover FAA rules and taking flying from a hobby to the professional level.

Instructor Bob Myers is retired from the U.S. Air Force. He is an FAA professionally-licensed and experienced small unmanned aircraft (drone) operator, producing aerial photography and providing services for the American Red Cross, fire and police agencies.

Cost for either class is $25. Weather permitting, Myers will demonstrate his drone at the end of class.
