Transfer student event set

College Night set for Oct. 17
Over 50 colleges and universities will be represented at Illinois Valley Community College’s 45th annual College Night 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 in the gym.

A financial aid seminar will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Dr. Mary Margaret Weeg Cultural Centre.
College Night is an opportunity for the community to meet with representatives from over 50 colleges and universities, both in-state and out-of-state.

Skerston Run/Walk on Oct. 14
Illinois Valley Community College will again be the site of the third annual Connie Dzierzynski Skerston 5K Run/Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.

The event honors the memory of Skerston who died in 2015 at age 45. She was a 16-year leader in IVCC’s Student Services office.

Entry fee is $30. Early packet pickup for those who registered by Oct. 7 will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13 near the college’s main entrance. Race day registration is 8 to 9:30 a.m.

Participants will receive a T-shirt, water and light snacks. Several age divisions are available.

National Student Day planned
The IVCC Bookstore is holding National Student Day events from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18 to raise funds for Red Cross disaster relief.
The bookstore will be selling T-shirts, collecting cash donations and selling raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes.
Raffle prizes include bookstore goody bags, a backpack and bookstore gift card.

Single mothers get program
IVCC and Starved Rock Associates for Vocational and Technical Education’s Illinois Valley Services (IVS) are hosting “Career and Life Transitions: Discover Your Purpose, Passion and Prosperity” for single mothers from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 in room CTC124.

Guest speaker is Susan Brauer, author of “Just Keep Dancing.”

Single Parent Coordinator Aurora Medina said, “IVS wants to connect single mothers with the resources necessary to thrive. The free event is aimed to helping them find purpose, passion and prosperity as well as to gain knowledge, motivation and confidence to tackle what life has to offer.
