PTK helps make Easter Seals 5K a sucess
September 4, 2015
IVCC’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) has a long history of community involvement in the Illinois Valley region since the chapter was established in 1968.
The organization helped kick off IVCC’s first annual Movember Men’s Health Awareness Month last year and participated in Dig Pink for breast cancer awareness. Most recently, the organization assisted in Ottawa at the Easter Seals 5K Run/Walk for the Kids on Aug. 3. This was their second year volunteering at this event, which this year raised more than $10,000.
PTK members Brandon Miller, Travis Sauers, Trevor Finnan, Nicole Stevenson and Ericka Sanchez all arrived early on the morning of the run/walk to set up tables, carry water, sort food and direct race traffic.
PTK is already set to work another 5K event on Oct. 10 to help raise money for the late Connie Dzierzynski Skerston’s Memorial Scholarship. Skerston, the longtime Assistant Director of Admissions, died unexpectedly in March.
Anyone interested in joining PTK and helping out in fundraising efforts can contact Professor Carmen Hartford, Professor Eric Schroeder or PTK student president Brandon Miller.
