SGA members attend fall conference
On Nov. 14 the IVCC Student Government Association traveled to Lewis and Clark Community College in Alton, Illinois to attend the 2014 Illinois Community College Student Activities Association’s Fall Conference.
The IVCC Student Government Association was joined by eighteen other community college activity associations.
The conference opened with a banquet and awards presentation followed by a musical performance featuring Fresh Wreckage. At the awards presentation, the ICCSAA committee invited students to apply for a scholarship opportunity that awarded four, two-hundred fifty dollar prizes. The funds for the scholarships are donated by the ICCSAA advisors at an annual auction.
After the concert, student attendees were invited to enjoy pizza, swimming, music, and various vendors.
The ICCSAA Fall Conference continued on the following morning, Nov. 15. Students and advisors began the second day of the conference with a one-woman show entitled “Evolution of a Black Woman: From the Slave House to the White House” by Morgan McCoy.
The performance was followed by breakout sessions that students were allowed to choose from.
Sessions that IVCC Student Government members attended included Feeling Ferguson, Dream Catchers, BiG iDEAS, and Do You Know What You Communicate. The sessions included information on current events, motivation, marketing, mass communication.
While students were attending breakout sessions, advisors attended a general meeting.
The conference commenced with lunch and a t-shirt swap where community college students in attendance swapped t-shirts from their college with other students.
