Solon appointed to Board of Trustees

Everett J. Solon of Streator has been appointed to a two-year term on the Illinois Valley Community College board of trustees.
Solon, Centrue Bank Market President, was appointed following a special meeting of the board Feb . 14 after four candidates were interviewed to fill the vacancy of Leslie-Anne Englehaupt of La Salle who resigned in early January.
A University of Illinois graduate, Solon was a member of the Streator High School Board for 18 years, 14 as president.
A Streator High School Foundation trustee and treasurer, Solon is also a 20-year director and Past President of the Streator Area Chamber of Commerce, Past President and campaign chairman for Streator United Way, a retired board member and Past President of the Streator YMCA, a three-year member of the St. Mary’s Hospital board, and a board member and 14-year President of the Streator Industrial Development Corporation.
Solon ran for the IVCC board in the last election in April 2011, helped the college establish the Ottawa Center in 2010, and serves on the steering committee for the $2.1 million capital campaign for the Peter Miller Community Technology Center.
“Everett has demonstrated his commitment to education and the community,” said IVCC Board Chairman Dennis Thompson. “A significant number of our students, both on main campus and at Ottawa Center, are from Streator and Everett will represent them well.”
Solon attended his first official board meeting on Feb. 19.
