Literary events slated

The Adult Education program at Illinois Valley Community College will celebrate National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, Sept. 10-16.
Activities will promote local adult education and literacy services, which include General Educational Development (GED), English as a Second Language (ESL), citizenship classes and one-to-one volunteer tutoring sessions.
The public is invited to attend open house events Monday through Friday, 1 to 3:30 p.m. in IVCC’s Adult Learning Center (E-323).
The week’s events will include a different awareness activity each day culminating with refreshments on Friday.
On Monday, Sept.10, participants will take a literacy trivia quiz. The answers not only will surprise, but also will inform participants of the critical need for literacy services in Illinois and the IVCC district.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, participants can play the “Guess Who” game. They will guess the celebrities who received a GED credential through adult education services.
On Wednesday, Sept. 12, participants can determine if they are smarter than a GED graduate by answering questions that are similar to GED Test questions.
On Thursday, Sept. 13, participants will answer questions frequently found on the citizenship exam.
On Friday, Sept. 14, the Adult Education Program will wrap the week up with a celebration in the Adult Learning Center.
