Construction continues on new building
September 4, 2012
Work continues on the exterior of the 80,000-square-foot Peter Miller Community Technology Center.
School officials report via the college’s Web site that 90 percent of the precast outside panels have been grouted and caulked while two crews continue roofing the structure.
The goal is to have much of the exterior closed in before winter so that interior work can continue in the cold weather.
Besides the work on the CTC, work is also continuing on the geothermal field adjacent to Orlando Smith Road.
Trucks have been moving dirt in and landscaping of the area will begin in the next 30 days.
The Peter Miller Community Technology Center will be home to Counseling, Financial Aid, and Admissions as well as programs such as Continuing Education, Career Services, and the Center for Innovation and Opportunity. A number of career and technology programs also will be in the new building.
The State of Illinois has given $22.8 million for the construction and IVCC will pay a $7.6 million match.
