On November 20-23, the IVCC Theatre Department represented a play called “Proof” by David Auburn. It was a very well-directed and portrayed play depicted by only four actors and actresses. Dr. Dale Young directed the play with three IVCC students and one community member. Proof is about a “young daughter mourning her genius father’s death,” stated Young. The delightful performance included comedy, romance, and drama all in one. The cast attempted to connect to the audience through all aspects of the strongest emotions. This included sympathy, passion, suspense, humor, and more. The cast definitely succeeded in their attempts at these aspects in many ways.
The character, Robert, played by Joseph Ennenback was depicted wonderfully as Catherines late father. Ennenback has been a part of the theatre community for over 50 years and continues to pursue his dreams of acting and performing. Catherine, played by Pheobe Kammer was just as well characterized. Kammer is a student at IVCC who graduated from high school not too long ago. As young as she is, she still performed smoothly and impressively for her age. Hal, played by Alex Stafford was the perfect illustration of the man he is meant to portray. Like Kammer, Stafford is also a young performer as well. Similarly, Stafford is an IVCC student chasing a career in performing and acting. Clair, played by Ellie Radtke, was the perfectly decorated helicopter sister for the performance. Radtke is an IVCC student with experience acting along with also performing the saxophone. Radtke too, is a young actress. These IVCC students are the perfect representation of “age is just a number.” Judging by this performance, they all have bright futures as students and members of the community. Dr. Young will also continue to excel as a director and leader for his community of students and actors. The IVCC Theatre Departments’ next performance will be “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” showing April 9-12 and 16-19, 2026. Auditions will be held January 20th and 21st at 6 p.m. in IVCC’s Weeg Cultural Center. Additionally, I would like to recognize the producer and technical director, Chad Brokaw, and the rest of his team that made this experience truly enjoyable. A terrific show!
