“Regretting You” has hit the theaters, and the reactions are… different. “Regretting You”directed by Josh Boone, is based on the book “Regretting You” by Colleen Hoover. This comes after the release of “It Ends with Us” in 2024, which also had mixed reviews.
Colleen Hoover’s books are so beloved, and the standards are so high when these movies come out, her book lovers are often let down. There have been some positive responses, though, simply in reaction to the story line.
“Regretting You” is about Claira Grant who loses her father and aunt (who is her best friend) in a car crash right before her 17th birthday. Navigating this heartbreak, Clara also tries to open to a classmate, Miller Adams. Throughout this story, there is heartbreak, betrayal, and growth. These are key story lines that are what everyone is getting to buy tickets.
It can be assumed that the book is simply better than the movie, but why have two charting books been so hated when their movies came out? Some say the acting: both movies have A-list actors starring in the films.
“Regretting You” has received backlash for the intimate scenes seeming more uncomfortable than described in the book. I know that when I watched the movie in the Peru Mall, my friend and I both covered our faces. Others in the theater made an uncomfortable laugh.
