Now Streaming: The Death of Stalin
September 17, 2020
As shining example of what dark comedy can be, The Death of Stalin directed by Armando Ianucci delivers an incredible viewing experience. Starring Steve Buscemi, Jeffrey Tambor, and Jason Isaacs, after the death of Joseph Stalin, his power hungry but seemingly incompetent advisors grapple for power in the vacuum left by Stalin. Armed with zinging one-liners, cheeky humor, and no small amount of backstabbing, the remaining leadership of Russia attempt to hold together the structure of a fragile Soviet Union.
As each of them vies for a piece of the power, they form alliances that fall apart just as quickly. Unsure of who they can trust, the film comes to a seemingly abrupt and shocking end. In a film that can only be described as the pinnacle of farce, the cast all deliver remarkable performances with a subtle, blink-and-you-miss-it form of humor. This film is now streaming on Netflix.
