Lil Peep, born Gustav Ahr, was this decades most prevalent artist. Peep’s music combined aspects of varying genres, punk, hip-hop and rock music.
Peep was a multi talented artist, model and musician who passed away in 2017 from an accidental overdose in Arizona. This tragedy struck before a scheduled performance. The latest project released by his estate posthumously is “Come Over When You’re Sober Pt. 2”.
Peep was born into a high functioning family, in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Peep’s parents were both Harvard Graduates and his father was a history professor, although Peep’s father was not a huge part of his life after he turned 14. At a young age Peep took dance lessons.
Peep suffered from anxiety and depression, and dropped out of highschool to get his diploma online. Shortly after this he moved to Los Angeles, California in 2016. While he was in LA he attended college for a short time, and even made the dean’s list.
Peep released his first project on soundcloud called “Lil Peep Pt. 1”. This added to the boom of soundcloud artists that became part of the mainstream in the last 5 years or so.
Peep’s Mother Liza Womack is suing Peep’s tour management, First Access Entertainment, for negligence while trying to release his music on his behalf.
The story of Lil Peep is not an uncommon one, unfortunately.
What people can take away from his legacy and the message behind his body of work is that people should take care of themselves, and listen to their friends, everyone has problems, so speak up if you need help.
