After a six-year stall on any tuition increases
throughout the pandemic, the IVCC board of trustees will be asked to decide on a tuition increase during their March 14 meeting. The college is seeking a $2 per credit hour increase in tuition and a $3 technology fee increase. President Tracy Morris said, “There are schools that are doing $10 or $25 dollar increases this year to catch up with covid. We do not want to do that ever, so we’re actually recommending $2 increase.” The change comes after a six-year hold on tuition prices: “We’re at a point now where if we don’t do that, we are going to have to cut, and you can’t cut your way to serving our students,” Morris said.
“I take this very, very seriously…we have had a lot of consideration with this. We want to go with the smallest possible increase that can allow us to continue to grow and continue to support our students.” On the effects the proposition may have on student aid recipients, Morris said, “For a student who gets MAP grant from the state, your map also incrementally goes up so it’s not more money out of your pocket: everything shifts
up.” The shift in pricing may raise concern that book prices will increase in price as well in the fall; however, Morris said “No, our move to using that inclusive access has been targeted to try and bring that price down for students.” Tuition is currently $125.60 per credit hour.
