William and Dian Taylor of Winnetka have created a scholarship for Illinois Valley Community College students transferring to Northern Illinois University to study in science, technology, engineering or mathematics fields.
The William and Dian Taylor Scholarship for STEM Students will be awarded annually to one IVCC transfer who has been accepted to begin junior-level science, technology, engineering or math major course work at NIU.
The award amount is $5,000 for the recipient’s junior year and is renewable senior year.
However, students participating in NIU’s Honors Program will qualify for full-tuition and required fees support.
Applicants must demonstrate a desire to pursue a non-teaching career.
In 2005, the Taylors, both graduates of IVCC predecessor LPO Junior College and NIU, established a full-tuition scholarship for IVCC students transferring to Northern in accounting.
They also provide ten $1,000 scholarships to IVCC students annually and one year ago made a $100,000 pledge to the Peter Miller Community Technology Center capital campaign.
