The 2024 IVCC baseball season opened season with a double header at Spoon River College on Feb. 25 and then continuing the season through spring.
The Eagles look to bounce back this year after having a record of 10-28 last year and new head coach Nick Harsted looks to lead the team.
Harsted said, “I’m excited to see how we compete this year. There has been so many additions to our program.”
While the men’s team has not won a conference title since 2003, Harsted said that continues to be their goal.
“Our program hasn’t won conference since 2003. Our goal will always be to add to the trophy cases.”
Harsted also added, “I also expect to make the postseason, another thing we haven’t accomplished in more than 5 years. We don’t want to settle with beating our win total from last season (10).
Coach Harsted said some things people should look forward to this season are, “I think people can look forward to seeing a new IVCC baseball team.”
The baseball team made two changes this year now playing their games at Schweickert Stadium in Peru and being moved up to Division 2.
One thing Harsted wanted people to know about this team is how much they care.
“There’s been multiple situations this year I’ve had to turn guys down from more reps long after practice ended. Guys are constantly in the weight room before and after practice” said Harsted. With a new home field and moving up to division 2, the hard-working Eagles are looking to bounce back this year and have a great season.
