Alumni take game, but Lily real winner
On Oct. 22, the IVCC men’s basketball program held their annual alumni game, but the real focus was Rally for Lily. The fundraiser raised $144 for the family of Lily Rosploch to help with expenses associated with her medical treatment.
The scrimmage was between alumni players and the men’s team, although some players also rotated on the alumni side. Redshirt freshman player Terrance Campbell led the alumni team with 33 points.
Although it was just a scrimmage game the competition got pretty intense. The game was tied at 38 at the half and 86 at the end of regulation. The game would come down to the wire with the alumni team pulling off the win 110-108 at the end of double overtime.
Returning sophomores Torrance Johnson, Jazz Drane, and Michael McCray look to improve on their freshman season and help the incoming class grow. The depth of this year’s team was evident as coach Herman rotated in many different players who impacted the game in various ways.
Expectations are high this season as the team has continued to grow throughout their offseason. Coach Herman praised their effort and stated, “The team really began to click in the last eight minutes of our previous scrimmage.”
Carrying that focus and determination into the season is a high priority for the players. “We’re going to give a hundred percent every time we’re on the court,” freshmen Jaylen McGee stated. “Our chemistry this year is really good, we’re coming together as a team.”
The team opens their season on Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. with a home game vs UW-Rock County. Students are admitted free with their student ID.
