After a rough start in the Florida and a few games being postponed to begin the 2014 softball campaign, the Lady Eagles hope to turn things as the season grinds on.
In recent games, the Lady Eagles traveled to South Holland for a two-game set against South Suburban College on March 31. The Lady Eagles won the first game with a final score of 5-2, but lost the second game with a final score of 3-4.
On April 1, the Lady Eagles played host to conference rival Blackhawk College for a two-game stint in the home opener.
The first game went to the Lady Eagles as they won with a final score of 5-4. Sophomore Olivia Harcar (Streator) had a good game as she drove in two runs. Freshman Rachelle Judd (Midland) scored three times in the win.
Freshman Elizabeth Whitaker (Glendale, Ore.) allowed four earned runs on 11 hits and struck out five as she took the win on the mound.
The second game was a different story as the Lady Eagles lost 9-0. Freshman Tiffany Lindsay (Fieldcrest) took the loss as she allowed 8 earned runs on 12 hits while striking out two.
On April 5, the Lady Eagles split a double header at Sauk Valley in Dixon. In the opening game of the contest, the Lady Eagles fell 2-4.
In the second game, the Lady Eagles prevailed by a 6-3 score.
The Lady Eagles have a record of 4-7 and 2-2 in conference play as of press time.
As a team, the Lady Eagles are batting .244, according to the National Junior College Athletic Association Web site.
Sophomore Micky Fassino, a La Salle- Peru high school graduate, leads the team with a .387 batting average. Fassino also leads the team in on-base percentage.
Harcar, Judd and Whitaker are all hitting above .300 for the team. Whitaker and freshman Miranda Grandy have hit the team’s two home runs.
On the mound, Lindsay has a 2-1 record for the Lady Eagles and a 2.44 ERA.
Whitaker’s record is 1-1 with a 3.0 ERA. The Lady Eagles’ other pitcher is freshman Michaela Cassel who is 0-1 with a 2.10 ERA thus far into the season.
The Lady Eagles play at home at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 10 vs. Highland and 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 14 vs. Waubonsee. The April 10 game is a conference match.
