Renovations, hire, retirement approved by board

Sarah Tipton

Hello! First off, I’d like to welcome our new and returning students to IVCC’s 2017 spring semester.

I’m hoping your semester is off to a good start so far. It can be difficult to get back into a set schedule, but it sure feels great to be back.

This past Thursday, I attended IVCC’s January board meeting and I just wanted to touch on some of the key points that were discussed during our open session.

First was the approval to seek bids for the Cultural Centre renovation project. This project will consist of lighting replacement, wall treatment and paint.

The Cultural Centre is a crucial element to our college and provides many great opportunities to the students and community; it is important to keep it up to date.

Another approved item on the list was the appointment of Julie Hogue as the Director of Nursing for Health Professions. Congratulations, Julie!

There was also a discussion on the changes made to the Board Policies.

I would also like to mention an item that was approved with deep regret, concerning the resignation notice of Economic Instructor Dr. Abhijeet Bhattacharya, known affectionately by students as Abhi.

He will be finishing out the calendar year, but I can’t imagine IVCC without him. I just wanted to say that I greatly enjoyed my time in Dr. Bhattacharya’s courses. After all, how often can you say that you were genuinely intrigued by an economics course?

All jokes aside, Dr. Bhattacharya has positively impacted my IVCC experience, and I believe many students would say the same.
Thank you, Dr. Bhattacharya for your all your extra effort and always putting the students first.

As always I would like to urge you to attend, observe, and speak up at our monthly meetings.

The board of trustees and I are always willing to hear what you have to say, so please don’t hesitate to join us.
