Trustee’s Corner: New trustee solicits more input from students
September 1, 2016
Hello IVCC students! First off, welcome new and returning students to IVCC’s 2016 fall semester. I’m hoping your semester is going according to plan so far.
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you a little bit of what I do for the college. My name is Sarah Tipton. I am from the small town of Dalzell, and I am a Gemini. Now that’s out of the way, I want to inform you on a more important aspect: my position here at IV.
I am IVCC’s student trustee and a member of the Student Government Association, which means I represent the students and act as your voice to the board. It is my responsibility to attend all Board of Trustees meetings, serve on the Board committee, and enhance communication between the Board and the student body.
If there is a matter to discuss let me know, and as it is my responsibility, I will bring opinions to the board. Not only am I willing to express everyone’s thoughts, but I also want to urge everyone to join me and feel free to speak up at our monthly meetings.
As the student representative, I will do everything in my power to make sure students are heard. Because the students are the top priority, the board of trustees cares about concerns and are open to listen.
Don’t hesitate to contact me. I am on campus every day this semester, and can usually be found in the student government office in the new life center where I hold office hours nearly every day. No matter is too big or too small, and I am here to help find a solution.
Lastly, I want everyone to know that my biggest goal is to get the students more involved, and with that in mind I would like to remind the faculty and students that Spirit Day is September 14, so I encourage people to visit the countless booths that will be set up and take part in all the exciting activities!
