Trustee bids farewell
Hello, Eagles!
The end of the semester is getting closer and closer. Some students will be staying for another year and some will be graduating and moving on. We do host a commencement ceremony to celebrate those who have finished their desired associate or certificate.
This year commencement will be May 16, a Saturday, in the gymnasium at 2:30 p.m. When walking in the ceremony, graduates will wear a cap and gown which can be ordered online through Jostens. The link can be found on www.ivcc.edu/commencement.
There will be one afternoon prior to May 16 when a walk-through practice run will be held to get graduates familiar to the order of operations for the big day. Our guest speaker this year is former lieutenant governor of Illinois, Sheila Simon.
If you are in an organization such as Phi Theta Kappa, TEACH, Nurses, etc., contact your advisor to place an order to wear special cords on the day of commencement signifying your activities.
It has been my absolute honor and privilege to serve all the students of Illinois Valley Community College this school year.
Elections for Student Government are being held April 9-10 and after that the new Student Trustee will be taking over. With that said, this is my last column I will be writing.
I have become extremely familiar with the needs of our students here. I have worked closely with other SGA members to discuss things to improve everyone’s experience at IVCC all while keeping in mind future students when we made decisions for the new student life center.
Being the Student Trustee has been a fantastic experience. I have gained so many new leadership skills and interpersonal skills that I will maintain and use the rest of my life. I wish the best of luck to every student, whether you are staying at IVCC for another year, transferring to a four-year university, joining the military, or going off into the work place.
Always be proud that you chose IVCC!
