Could SGA be for you?
Being involved at IVCC is a key to getting the most of your college experience. Student Government Association is a great organization on campus.
Elections for the 2015-2016 school year will be in April. Any IVCC student can vote. Positions on SGA include President, Vice President, Student Trustee, Secretary, Treasurer, Sophomore/ Freshmen Representative and Programmer. Every position is a little different from the next but the main goal for everyone is to benefit the students at IVCC.
Throughout the school year, SGA organizes and host many events on campus. These events include Spirit Day, Student Appreciation Days, Talent Showcase, Dig Pink fundraisers, Pi Day, a blood drive, and family reading nights.
Student Government officers participate in Student Advocacy Day held in Springfield. As a club, we drove to Lewis and Clark Community College to the ICCSA conference.
All members of SGA meet every other Thursday morning to talk about our upcoming events and throw out ideas for future activities. These meetings usually only last between 30 minutes and an hour. Some positions require some additional time commitments, but if you ask me or any of my fellow SGA members, it has been well worth our time and energy.
So what’s in it for you? If you want to feel like your opinions and ideas could make a difference at IVCC this could be the club for you. Depending on the position you run for, there is a possibility of you earning a tuition waiver. Making connections with your advisor, school’s personnel, and other college’s SGA members could be very beneficial to you in the future. Above all, the friends you make through this organization are going to be life-long.
