Foundation Scholarship time is here; apply now!
Hello Eagles!
I hope everyone enjoyed their month of break and has started off 2015 on the right foot. Take the next step and start thinking about scholarships for the upcoming school year.
If you go to classes on the Oglesby Campus, you’ve probably passed the Foundation Office. It’s possible that you have no idea what the people in there do. They are working year round trying to make college more affordable for YOU, the students. They are located between the main lobby by the old cashiers and the future student life center.
Every year the Foundation awards students scholarships. In fact, for the 2014-2015 school year, they awarded $264,600 to 269 students. Every applicant that turned in the application and short essay last year, ended up receiving a scholarship. Every scholarship has a minimum of $500 and can go all the way to $3,500.
There are scholarships granted based on your field of study, for example, nursing, political science, criminal justice/forensics, automotive, and engineering. There are also scholarships that are open to everyone. The qualifications range from being a single parent, a veteran, your GPA, or even the high school you attended.
To be eligible to receive a scholarship, you must fill the FAFSA for the 2015-2016 school year. Foundation scholarships are due March 6.
If you are awarded a scholarship, you’ll be notified by mail in late June. You will be invited to the attend a reception in the Fall where you have the opportunity to meet and talk to the donor behind your scholarship.
It doesn’t require a lot of time, but with a little effort you could end up with free money for school. It never hurts to apply. If you want to pick up information or an application stop in the Foundation Office.
If you have additional questions, Donna Swiskoski can answer them in the office or by email [email protected] or by phone 815-224-0551.
Happy applying!
