The Adult Education Department will have a Two-Eventsin-
One Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 in the
cafeteria foyer:
Before moving into the Peter Miller Community Technology
Center, the I-READ Adult Literacy Program is having a moving
sale. The miscellaneous items include picture frames, books,
clocks, candleholders, flag pins and book pins.
The second event, held simultaneously, is a gently-used holiday
items sale. These miscellaneous items, including Thanksgiving
and Christmas decorations, have been donated by IVCC
staff members.
None of the items will be priced, but each will be available
for a monetary donation. Proceeds from these two events will
go to the I-READ program and the Support Staff Service Project,
which will help Adult Ed students pay for the GED test,
which is changing Jan. 2, 2014, and increasing in cost from $50
to $120.
The I-READ program serves adult learners who test below
the ninth grade level in reading or math or who are beginningto
intermediate-level English language learners. These learners
are tutored by volunteers who receive 15 hours of training before
being placed with a learner or in one of our Adult Education
classes throughout the IVCC District.
The I-READ program is made possible by a grant awarded
by the Illinois State Library, a division of the Office of Secretary
of State, using funds designated for literacy.
