Adam Hoye, president of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at IVCC, here to tell you a little or I should say a BIG thing we do here on campus called The College Project.
We meet with Jerry Corcoran, president of IVCC, each year to come up with a topic of what Phi Theta Kappa, PTK, can do to help the campus. This year we have chosen a topic we are calling Negative Influences on Positive People.
Now you ask yourself, ‘How does this affect me?’ Negative influences are all around us whether you see them or not. Some of us students have families, children, friends, jobs, hobbies, and much more, and, to be honest, sometimes they just get in the way and you need a release on how to take care of them.
My vice presidents and I have come up with that solution called the PTK-Support Group.
And to help this cause, we are creating an email account where you can remain anonymous or not, it’s totally up to you; however, we will keep things anonymous even if you state who you are. We are going to sit as a group and come up different solutions and give the feedback straight to the email you sent from. What we are doing with the newspaper is taking some of those problems and feedbacks we stated and publishing them here for other students to relate and use the feedback.
Some ideas that we have come up with and still have in the works to help during your time at IV, for example, include during finals week, PTK is going to co-op with the Massage Therapy class and give free massages and treats/drinks in the lobby. This way you can be relieved before or after your final(s). We are sitting down currently coming up with other ideas to have happen here on campus as well to keep things positive.
So stay posted here and find out who your PTK members and officers are.
Talk to faculty members Eric Schroeder, Carmen Hartford, or Charles Kwiatkowski or PTK members on what Phi Theta Kappa is all about. We hope to hear from you!
