IVCC has recently revealed a logo to celebrate the college’s 100 year anniversary which will take place on April 24, 2024.
It was designed by Chad Brokaw, IVCC Theater Events & Technical Coordinator.
“IVCC already has a strong brand awareness and I wanted to incorporate a sense of familiarity into the 100th logo,” said Brokaw. “This included using the same fonts and colors. Also, including the IV shield would reinforce the brand recognition.
“Throughout my 20-plus year as a marketing consultant, I have always been fascinated with logos that use negative space. When looking at the shield, not only could it be seen as an ‘I,’ but it also doubles as a one.”
The “IV shield” logo was created by Michael Stanard, a graduate of IVCC’s predecessor, La Salle-Peru-Oglesby Junior College.
Also, Stanard recently retired from his roles as President and Creative Director of One Zero Charlie, an advertising agency in Woodstock, IL.
According to Stanard, he was informed by his mother in the 1980s of a contest IVCC was holding to find a new logo. He wanted to ensure the college ended up with a professional logo, so he submitted a design of his own.
“I subsequently won the contest [and] $500,” said Stanard. “However, I spent about $7,500 worth of my time and my staff’s time creating a world-class presentation.”
According to Stanard, the logo is an abstract letter “V” with an “I” inside. Furthermore, the flame represents a lamp of knowledge.
“I must say that I am forever grateful for the opportunity presented by our community college system,” said Stanard. “Had it not been for LPO, I have no idea what I’d be doing today.”
