The construction project in D-201 has been going on for quite sometime now due to supply chain issues. An elevator delay has stalled the project, but the arrival’s elevator near the end of September has allowed the project to resume. Director of Facilities Scott Curley said that the board approved $1,778,413 for the project. This new remodel on campus will have dual purpose. IVCC’s CETLA coordinator Dawn Lockwood answered some questions regarding the renovation that students and staff may ask.
Q: How will the space be used?
A: The space is going to be a dual-purpose for CETLA and for the IVCC bands. The bands rehearse on two evenings per week and need a large rehearsal space and storage areas for instruments and equipment. CETLA will use the space for meetings, workshops, training and offices. In the space there is an office suite that has an outer office area and offices for the three CETLA staff members, two meeting rooms, a room for a recording studio, a training space for around 25 and a large meeting area that can be used for all faculty in-services and development days.
Q: What are some highlights of the remodel?
A: The ceiling has been acoustically designed for the bands. The term “tuning” the room was used to describe the process. The elevator is also a very exciting part of this renovation. The elevator will make the space accessible to all of our band students and faculty who will be using the space. The other nice feature about this space is the furniture purchased for the large meeting areas is all designed to be easily moved and configured. It is similar to the furniture in the active learning space in the academic support center (ASC). This will allow us to have flexibility to configure the space easily for different types of meetings and styles of meetings and activities. Along with the furniture there are also multiple screens that can be controlled collectively or independently depending on the type and style of meeting. An area for a recording studio has long been on CETLA’s wish list and this project has also brought that dream into a reality. The full set up of the studio room has been delayed to April because of supply chain issues.
Q: What is CETLA’s mission & hours?
A: From our website: CETLA’s mission is to support faculty at IVCC. We strive to support teaching and learning for faculty and student success. Hours: Monday-Thursday: 8a.m.-3:30 p.m., Friday: 8 a.m.-noon, and other times by appointment.
