November 4, 2021
Although originally from a small town in northern Wisconsin called Peshtigo, Tom Quigley, who recently assumed the role of Director of Admissions and Transfer Services, immediately felt welcomed by his fellow staff and faculty as well as students.
“Everyone is very nice and friendly,” Quigley stated. “The free parking has been very nice too!”
Before assuming his role at IVCC, Quigley began his career in admissions as a student worker in his undergraduate.
“Then, I went full-time as an Admissions Coordinator at SIU,” explained Quigley. “There I was in charge of recruiting out-of-state students in the southern region of the United States.”
Quigley is currently attending SIU to earn his master’s degree in Workforce Education and Development where he is expected to graduate this December. He expressed that this will be one of his greatest achievements.
By working for SIU, Quigley was able to take classes for free with an employee tuition waiver. He continued to explain why he decided to study the program he is currently in.
“I picked the degree that I could get done the fastest while continuing to work full-time,” Quigley said.
Outside of his duties as a director, Quigley enjoys hiking, watching sports, playing video games, and participating in Fantasy Football.
When asked about what a student should know about him, Quigley responded, “That I like to watch basketball. My favorite team is the Milwaukee Bucks. Calling them to repeat as Champs in 2022!”
He also expressed that one of his favorite parts of the Illinois Valley area is the variety of food.
“I was pleasantly surprised how good the food was,” elaborated Quigley. “There are so many restaurants to go and try. Let me know what your favorite spot is!”
Admissions student worker, Emme Bottom, explained that Quigley has been fitting in very well in the office. She continued, “He has a new perspective on planning events like Explore IVCC and our past College Fair!”
Despite Quigley recently being hired in August, the people at IVCC have been his favorite aspect.
“I think it is a very exciting time to be at IVCC,” said Quigley. “Go Eagles!”
