Kelly McDonough, an IVCC student and Sigma Kappa Delta (SKD) member has been chosen to attend the Sigma Kappa Delta Convention in Savannah, Ga.
McDonough is an English major in her fourth semester at IVCC. She is the secretary for the English Honors Society, Sigma Kappa Delta, on campus.
The national SKD invites all community college chapter members to submit a piece of writing to attend a convention that is held annually.
In her own words McDonough described the convention as a place to “celebrate writing and to teach more advanced writing skills.”
The convention has four featured speakers, one of which is the author Justin Torres whose book, “We, the Animals,” is the common reader for all attending.
McDonough submitted a collection of original poems and said that she decided to enter because she “thought it would be fun and [she] wanted to try and see if [she] could win anything.”
She loves to read and write and hopes to learn a lot from the experience of attending a national 0conference.
