An open house will take place Wednesday, Nov. 14 to show off the new facilities of IVCC’s Therapeutic Massage program.
Therapeutic massage has moved to what was known as the upper gym as part of the $30.5 million Peter Miller Community Technology Center updates.
The open house allows members of the community, IVCC students, past graduates, and area businesses to glimpse the new facilities and partake of the amenities. Open house offerings will include Reiki, Tai Chi and chair massage. Refreshments and door prizes will also be available.
Therapeutic massage classes were previously held on the East Campus, where many buildings will be bulldozed as construction is completed and programs relocate.
The East Campus buildings are part of the original campus, and they date back to the 1970s.
Along with the open house, massage therapy students offered massages in the lobby in recognition of massage therapy awareness week. Three of the five current students from the therapeutic massage program offered chair massages to students, faculty and staff of IVCC.
There have been 143 graduates who have gone on to work in private practice, spas, health-care, and other areas since the program’s inception in 2000. There have also been eight licensed graduates with an Associate’s of Applied Science degree and two licensed graduates with an advanced certificate.
The open house will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the former upper gym.
