Spring is here, which means nice weather to most people, but to IVCC it means the Student Government Association’s elections are going to be held soon.
The Student Government Association, often referred to as the SGA, is the sole, exclusive and officially recognized governing agent for the student body of IVCC. SGA members represent fellow students at the college and state level by attending meetings, participating on committees, and voicing opinions and concerns.
SGA members also plan and execute a variety of student activities, such as Spirit Day, IVCC Theatre Night, Soul Food Buffet, Pi Day, New Student Orientation, and the Fall and Spring Preview. Students also help to raise awareness with campaigns such as March of Dimes, Voting Campaigns, Breast Cancer Research, Adopt-A-Highway, and many more causes.
In addition to students planning and executing a variety of student activities, SGA allows students to get involved with students, faculty and staff, administration, and the community.
Positions that are available for student government this upcoming fall semester are president, vice-president, student trustee, treasurer, secretary, sophomore representative, and two sophomore programming board members.
Petitions to sign up for SGA can be picked up at Cory Tomasson’s office, which is located in Room E-306. All petitions must be turned in by Friday, April 6, by 4 p.m.
Sophomore elections will be Thursday, April 12 and Friday, April 13 in the main lobby, and also at the Ottawa Center. Freshman elections will be held at the beginning of the Fall 2012 semester.
Once available, candidate profiles will be posted on the IVLeader Web site, www.ivleader.com.
