Illinois Valley Community College students, faculty, and staff were given the opportunity to express their innermost feelings with out chance of rejection over the Valentine’s Day holiday this year.
IVCC’s Dead Poets Society sponosred the anonymous love letters project during Valentine’s week. Participants were asked to write a letter declaring love to anyone or thing they wanted. The received letters were put on display on Feb. 14.
Even though the letters were unsigned it is clear they are from a broad range of people and show the many aspects of love.
Some love letters were traditional: “I love that every woman I meet will never be on the same level as you.”
Some letters were of familial love: “A Love Letter to My Grandmother.”
Others ran the gamut from listing favorite things, “Dear Top Chef, Downtown Abbey, and Big Bang Theory…I love you!” to short and direct ones, ” Stop being a D-bag and ask me out already.”
“I think you’re pretty I wanna take you out on a date.”
One letter expressed the love for the untouchable: ” O hot teachers, what can I say?”
Another tries to express what love is: “Love is being a grandparent.”
