Feb. 29 has been set as the deadline for IVCC Foundation Scholarship applications.
Students may pick up an application from the Foundation office, Room C-202, or download the application online at www.ivcc.edu. Students are required to submit an essay as well as file their FAFSA for the 2012-2013 school year to be eligible for awards.
Fran Brolley, director of community relations and development, stressed the importance of the essay for students who are turning in applications.
The application must be turned in print and cannot be submitted online. Essay requirements include the student’s educational and professional goals, why the student chose their field, plans beyond IVCC, community service, or work experience.
Each year, IVCC awards nearly 200 scholarships. Awards range from $500 to $2,000. One application may cover multiple awards based on criteria for different scholarships.
According to Donna Swiskoski, Foundation Office administrative assistant, “There are general awards that the criteria differ for. For example, the Lucille and Ethel Rottner Scholarships requires the student to graduate from LP High School. It doesn’t mean that a student needs to be a senior; they could have graduated 15 years ago from LP and still be eligible for this award.”
Some awards also have GPA requirements. The William and Loretta Byerly award has a maximum GPA requirement of 2.9, while the Nora and Mennow P. Smith award requires a minimum GPA of 3.0.
