In a semi-unexpected surprise, Bethesda has not only announced, but also released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. They revealed that they teamed up with highly-acclaimed development company, Virtuos, and that the game had been in the works since 2021. There had been no signs of the game’s development until days before it was released, when images and leaks of the Oblivion remaster were found on Virtous’s website.
The Oblivion remaster is a near one-to-one recreation of the original game with some quality-of-life tweaks, like revamped leveling and combat systems, and some rerecorded lines. The game also includes the paid expansion packs of the original game, Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles, for no extra cost. Speaking of cost, the remaster only costs $50 for the base game and $60 for the deluxe edition. This greatly contrasts the prices of most modern-day releases, which are often upwards of $60-$70 for the base game alone. It is available on all platforms and on Xbox Game Pass.
The game has been extremely well received with favorable reviews by most aggregators, with Metacritic giving it an 83/100 for PC and Xbox and an 82/100 for PS5.
