The IVCC Jazz Ensemble, directed by Tim Karth, will host a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, in IVCC’s Cultural Center.
The concert will be a tribute to Swing and will include famous tunes, such as “In the Mood,” “April in Paris,” and “Sing, Sing, Sing.”
Swing Era jazz with its driving rhythm, emotional character, and swinging dance beat brought the Big Band sound to audiences of all ages from the Depression through World War II and beyond.
Swing artists include Duke Ellington, with his hit “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing,” Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and Glenn Miller.
IVCC Jazz Ensemble is comprised of student and professional musicians throughout the Illinois Valley.
The ensemble is open to all wind instrument players and to piano, guitar, and trap drum players, with the consent of the instructor/director.
