The acclaimed Giving Tree Band performed in Illinois Valley Community College’s Cultural Centre Friday, April 18, and tickets were available for $10.
The Henry Torpedo Boys, a popular local bluegrass band, opened the concert at 7 p.m.
Giving Tree founding members Todd and Eric Fink hail from Yorkville yet their unique blend of intense bluegrass and rock ‘n roll have gained the band a national following.
The group has played recently at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and The House of Blues in Chicago.
In addition to their reputation as highly skilled musicians, often switching instruments mid-performance, the band is also known for their extraordinary commitment to the environment, said IVCC sociology professor Jared Olesen.
Tickets were purchased online at EventBrite.com or at the door while availability lasted. Student groups IV Sustainability and the Student Government Association sponsored the concert along with IV Cellular.
IVSustainability is dedicated to the pursuit of a sustainable college. Students work on ideas aimed at creating a green IVCC for the 21st century.
