SPAMO presents “A Holiday Dream” by David Allan Kuester.
What happens when a magical elf takes a boy on a romp through storybook land to teach him a lesson? “Lots of Fun!”
“I am pleased to direct this play for IVCC and the Carus Foundation” said Kuester. “This has always been one of the favorite plays I have written. It was first published in 1999 and has had a long performance history.”
The show is about Tim, a young boy with low esteem. He doesn’t even want to join his family for a holiday celebration (Christmas or any other holiday or special occasion).
As he dozes off to sleep, an elf comes to help him — with the aid of the audience. As he gains self-confidence, he rescues Hansel and Gretel from the witch, Little Red Riding Hood from the Big Bad Wolf, and Jack and his beanstalk from the giant. Was it only a dream?
This show does a lot of double casting but it doesn’t take away from the magic of the show. The cast includes Chase Woolman as Tim, Elizabeth Voitik as Petrenella Pixie, Katie Morris as Mom, John Eppard as Hansel and Jack, Rhodes Garland as Wolf and Giant, Emily Hanck as Gretel, Red, and Harpo, and Karen Leifheit as Witch, Grandma, and Giant’s Wife.
The show date is Saturday, Nov. 16 at Carus Mansion in La Salle at 1, 4 and 7 p.m. Tickets can be reserved by calling 815-224-5895 and are priced as follows: General Admission $8, Children (ages 3-12) $5, IVCC students $2.
