Softball starts season on winning note

The Eagles softball team has started the season with a 7-5 record as of press time.

The Eagles got off to a 4-2 start with six games in Clermont, Fla., March 17-19.

Since returning home, the teams have split 3-3 with a win against Madison and a double-header victory vs. Kishwaukee. Currently, the Eagles are 2-2 in the Arrowhead Conference.

Sophomore shortstop Annie Miller, a Putnam County graduate, leads the team in batting average, hitting .489 thus far in the season.

Jaimee Ciesielski and Brianna Lau, both freshmen, also are hitting over .400 for the Eagles. Cieslieski is hitting . .457 and Lau is hitting .409.

The Eagles are ranked 12th in the nation in triples, with 10, according to the National Junior College Athletic Association website.

On the mound, Lauren Tjaden has led the Eagles with a 6-1 record. Fresman Adriana Pikula is 1-2.
The Eagles return to action at home at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 13 on the IVCC campus.
