Project Awareness against domestic violence

Students from Illinois Valley Community College’s Human Services Program have created a group called Project Awareness to take a stand against domestic violence.

Teaming up with A Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Service (ADV/SAS), and Freedom House, the group has events planned in October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Posters designed by the Graphic Design students to raise awareness about domestic violence will be displayed in the lobby through Friday, Oct. 17.

Through Oct. 14, community members placed ribbons in drop boxes at Granville, Hennepin, Peru, Streator, Ottawa, Oglesby, Princeton, and La Salle libraries for individuals remembered, honored, and still struggling against domestic violence.

Project Awareness hosted a Domestic Violence Tree and guest speaker Oct. 15.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, ADV/SAS will host a domestic violence program at the Reddick Library in Ottawa.
